Everywoman in Travel Awards celebrates women's achievements in the travel industry

Everywoman is an organization dedicated to support the advancement of women in business through networking, leadership programs and mentorship events. One of their initiatives is the Everywoman Award, a program that recognizes the achievements of women across a wide range of sectors and industries.

This year, the organisation launched their first award dedicated to the travel and hospitality industry. The winners for the Award’s eight categories were announced last Thursday the 15th, in a ceremony at London’s East Winter-garden venue.

Everywoman's co-Founder, Karen Gill, MBE, spoke about the award’s importance in inspiring the next generation of business women in the travel industry.

“One of the things we like to do at Everywoman is to really focus on the positive stories, to try to create cultural diversity, including in gender. When young girls see women being successful in whatever fields, they realize that they can be successful too,” said Karen Gill.

Winner of the Entrepreneur award, Abi Wright is the main character in one of these inspiring stories. She is the co-founder of Spabreaks.com, a company that offers spa treatments for people with disabilities or patients recovering for cancer, among others. Her senior management team is 98% female and her mentoring has led three mothers to develop their own successful businesses.

“Once a male creative writer sat in front of me in my school and said that I was lucky to have a pretty smile, because I should aim low, get married, have lots of children and don’t expect much. Luckily, I am not good in doing what I am told and three children and two husbands later, I have my own successful business,”enthused Wright in her acceptance speech.
